Conducting injuries often show up in the shoulder, arm, wrist, or hand, but the source of the problem may involve much more than the painful joint.
In this practical, movement-based masterclass, Andrew Byrne (of The Singing Athlete) explores ways to improve the nervous system’s control of the upper extremity for conductors working both from the podium and the keyboard.
Participants will work with nerve glides, joint-mapping exercises, and trunk-to-arm coordination, including one abdominal muscle with an especially important relationship to upper-extremity movement. The goal is to leave with simple tools that can be used both when rehabbing an existing problem and to make the physical demands of conducting more sustainable.
